For anyone traveling with Air Canada During the holidays, the airline launched a way to help passengers track their luggage.
Customers can use the Share Item Location feature on the Air Canada website to securely share the location of the Apple AirTag or the Find My network with the airline in the event their luggage goes missing or is delayed.
Air Canada says it’s a more efficient way to reunite passengers with their luggage.
The airline has provided the steps to use this feature.
- Generate a Share Location link for an item in the Find My app on your iPhone, iPad or Mac and securely share it with Air Canada’s baggage team via their Delayed baggage claim website.
- For customer privacy and security, location sharing will automatically end when a customer finds their bag, can be stopped by the customer at any time, and will automatically expire after seven days.
- To use the new Share Item Location feature, customers must verify that their Apple device is running iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, or macOS 15.2 or later.
In a statement to Global News, Air Canada said: “To complement the baggage tracking feature in the Air Canada app, we are one of the first airlines to integrate Apple’s new Share Location of Items feature in our baggage handling processes.
“This will allow customers to privately and securely share the location of their AirTag or Find My network accessory with Air Canada’s baggage tracking team in the rare event their baggage is delayed so that our employees can quickly bring them together with customers.”
While it’s unclear whether other airlines will follow suit, Porter Airlines said it has no plans to implement the feature at this time.
