Artificial intelligence (AI) refers to the ability of algorithms integrated into systems and tools to learn data so that they can perform automated tasks without explicit programming of each step by a human. The generative AI is a category of AI techniques in which algorithms are formed on data sets that can be used to generate new content, such as text, images or videos. This direction addresses a type of generative AI, large multimodal models (LMM), which can accept one or more types of data input and generate various outputs which are not limited to the data type supplied in the algorithm. It has been predicted that LMMs will have wide use and wide application in health care, scientific research, public health and drug development. The LMMs are also known as “foundation models for general use”, although it is not yet proven if the LMMs can perform a wide range of tasks and objectives.
