Adrien Broner is asked to admit his retirement after another night of partying and junk food relayed to his fans.
The four-weight world champion, who signed with Don King in March 2023 on the promise of another world title run, failed in his mission. He has fought twice in the span since Broner beat part-time lawyer/boxer Bill Hutchinson on points before losing to Blair Cobbs, also managed by Blair Cobbs.
Broner has continually posted about his desire to hit the club and recently revealed that his eating habits leave nothing to be desired. “The Problem” remains a regular at fast food after a night of drinking and whatever else he does, which won’t impress promoter King.
The two men have already disagreed on certain subjects since their decision to collaborate, notably when King threw a BOLO on Broner stating that he may or may not attend the press conference for the Cobbs fight. Broner did so and was subsequently roasted by his opponent.
To compound his misfortune, Cobbs scored a shocking victory and has since paraded around with the WBC “people’s champion belt”, designed as a unique centerpiece for the winner. Cobbs didn’t get that memo and is not the titleholder in his world.
A rematch between the two men should have been considered to give Broner a chance to redeem himself, but it appears that since getting paid by King, the Cincinnati native is returning to everyday wrestling.
It’s hard to believe that Broner is still only 35 years old, as his fall since 2019 has been spectacular. After earning a career-high salary with a clash with Manny Pacquiao at MGM GrandBroner only fought three times and aged ten years in five. His penchant for wild parties and hanging out with those who distract his attention from sports is apparently where the problem lies.
By the time he was 28, Broner had reigned in four weight classes and was in the running for a spot in the International Boxing Hall of Fame. But if he retired now, who knows if Adrien Broner would achieve first-round status in three years.
Things could have been so different for the talented fighter, which is why his continued extracurricular activities are disappointing every time they rear their heads.
Which happens quite often these days.
