For residents of Oceanic breeze village In Dartmouth, NS, the slow destruction of the community is a tragedy.
Céline Porcheron, who has lived in Ocean Breeze Village since 2017 and is the president of the Ocean Breeze Residents Association, finds that it is heartbreaking to look at the community where her friends lived once they were expelled and demolished.
“It’s absolutely devastating,” said Porcheron. “It’s stressful; I spend my time at work to think about it. My breaks are filled with research and talk to people and try to make noise.
“This community wants to make noise – it wants to be heard.”
On April 2, the developer distributed a brochure to all those who live in the community, informing 143 households that they would be expelled on March 31, 2026, as part of the second phase of land development.
There is not yet a chronology for phase three or four of development.

Basin Heights Community LP bought the community in 2023 and began the first phase of the new development plans for the summer region of 2024. This phase involved avoiding it many tenants who have moved within the community and demolish empty buildings.
In a community made up largely of low -income families and those who have pension and disability benefits, be forced to find a place to live in less than a year does not seem possible.
Jessica Sudsbury, a long -standing resident of Ocean Breeze, discovered Wednesday that she and her daughter were included in the expulsions of March 2026. She says that it is not enough time, especially given the number of households now in the same position in which she is.
“To receive such a short notice, even a year may seem for a long time, but we know how fast the time is going on. So yes, I was quite shocked and I think reality has really settled,” said Sudsbury.
She adds that she has trouble not keeping her daughter from friends and schools, but given the difficulties in finding accommodation, she says she may not have much choice.
“It could be a question of everything we can get, we take. Whether it is further, moving him away from his friends, reducing if it is because it is, you know, available or what we can afford. So, yes, there is a lot in the air, “she continued.
Basin Heights Community LP offers financial assistance to residents in the form of a payment equivalent to three months of rent and punctual payments of $ 3,500 to move outside of Ocean Breeze Village if they confirm on June 30. But for Céline Porcheron, it is not enough, especially given the housing and chronology market.
“Now, what we do not like about this is that it really turns someone’s arm in the housing market that we have. We need a lot of research to be able to find something these days and uproot children in March before the end of the school year is heartless,” said Porcheron.
