The Ontario police watchdog said that a teenager died in hospital a little more than a day after hitting shots involving Toronto Police officers during a traffic stop.
The news of death came on Tuesday morning with the revelation that the boy – who had previously been called a male victim – was 16 years old.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU), which acts as the police watchdog investing in various incidents such as shootings involving officers, said traffic stop was near Bathurst Street and Sheppard Avenue West around 11 p.m. on Sunday.
A Toronto police officer had arrested an infiniti in connection with an offense of the road traffic law – he lacked a license plate before, said the SIU.
Kristy Denette, spokesperson for the SIU, said on Monday that Toronto police reported an exchange of gunshots when two police officers had shot their weapons.
A 16 -year -old boy was struck by gunshots. He was transported urgently to the hospital in a deadly state, said the SIU.
In an update on Tuesday, the SIU said that the teenager had died of his injuries this morning. A post mortem examination is planned.

The SIU offers witnesses in the region and anyone with video sequences. The agency said six people were in the vehicle who was arrested and that there are also witness officers to question.
It is not clear if the teenager killed during the gunshots had fired gunshots, or if he was a driver or passenger in the vehicle.
Global News obtained a video of the incident showing an exchange of shots surrounding the Infiniti Rouge.
There was no serious injury to the Toronto police officers.

In addition to the SIU, Toronto police are working on their own investigation.
“Toronto police also conduct a parallel criminal investigation; they are also interested in this,” said Denette.
“The last time I checked, there was a search warrant that they were trying to have access to this (vehicle). We believe that there is a firearm in this vehicle, however, I cannot speak if it is indeed a gun or so because we simply did not examine it. ”
Toronto police said they had arrested five people in connection with traffic stop – a 20 -year -old man, an 18 -year -old woman, two 17 -year -old girls and a 16 -year -old girl.
All five were responsible for having a loaded firearm, having a firearm without a license and occupying a motor vehicle with a firearm. One of the young people was also accused of not complying with a liberation order.
