A mother from Hamilton says she is too afraid to go back to her apartment After a deadly fire, he broke out in the Eastwood apartments on Sunday morningLeaving two children and a dead adult.

The three alarms fire started around 10 a.m. in a unit on the second floor of the building, according to the Hamilton Fire Department. The thick flames and smoke quickly spread, forcing the firefighters to perform several rescues.

Fiza Edroos, a one -year -old first mother, says she thought she and her family might not show up alive.

“I panicked,” said Edroos. “I said to my husband,” You take the baby and run. The only thing in my mind is that we had 12 floors to go down. »»

Edroos described the terrifying moments when she lost sight of her husband and baby while trying to help a senior resident put her shoes and coat. “I didn’t know where they were for 30 to 40 minutes. I was so afraid, ”she said.

“Smoke has reached alarms.”

The Hamilton fire service said that more than 60 firefighters had fought fire. While they were able to contain the flames, three people – two children and one adult – died and 13 others were transported to the hospital.

The Ontario fire office is investigating the cause of the fire. Investigators confirmed that the fire had started in a single unit, but the smoke and the flames spread to other parts of the building.

Edroos says that she has read her rental agreement to see how she can terminate it and leave the building. “There is no way I can stay there. What if there is another fire? Do you expect me to stand on the balcony and wait for death? She said.

In a declaration to the tenants, Interrent, the building management company of the building, expressed its condolences to affected families and has provided some updates to the maintenance of the building and the next steps. However, some residents have raised concerns on Facebook concerning construction maintenance, including heating problems, tenants’ concerns and the building fire protection system.

Local deputy Sarah Jama also expressed her concerns, calling for a fire safety review in older buildings. “All residents deserve to live in safe and secure housing, and we must take proactive measures to prevent future tragedies,” she wrote in an official statement.

The Canadian Red Cross intervened to help the displaced tenants.

Although it is too early to determine a solid cause, the investigator of Jim Kettles fires with the Marshal Fire office said that his team will examine all possible causes, including electrical systems and other sources of potential ignition.

“The ground on which the fire was is almost uninhabitable at this stage because there was a significant amount of smoke there,” said Kettles.

“We are going to leave no stone not returned by this investigation,” he added.
