QUINCY (WGEM) – Plans are underway for a local college to invest in science and technology and these plans are evolving quickly.

On Monday, an urgent meeting was called upon to order with the John Wood Community College Board of Trustees.

Officials have reported an increase in registration for its scientific and technological program. President Bryan Renfro said that the program had scored 65 additional students, which means an additional need for space.

“We developed these spaces in 1999 and they are considerably exceeded compared to modern standards,” said Renfro. “It will give them a brilliant new look, a new feeling, but also a new excellent environment for which our faculty will teach and create much more days for collaboration with our students.”

Renfro said the plan was to reorganize the installation during the summer. Students will return to a peak installation with more space. On Monday, the board of directors approved the project of more than $ 1.5 million during its special session to move the process and prepare it for the fall of 2025.

“These laboratory areas are used for the courses designed for the pre-health professions,” said Renfro. “Like nursing, overvoltage technology and also STEM professions, such as engineering, medical life sciences, biology, chemistry and physics.”

Renfro said that the installation bathrooms will also receive an upgrade.

School officials have said that over the past four years, the science and technology building has also obtained an upgrade for IT, graphics and students’ collaboration.
