A new cross -border fence has sparked a certain controversy along a small part of the longest border in the world.
The chain link fence is along the west side of Roberts point on the Canadian side of the border.
“Everyone says,” What’s going on? ” “Said Brian Calder, a double citizen and former director of the Point Roberts Chamber of Commerce.
The City of Delta said that she had put the closure after an aged person in Tsawwassen died when he went for a walk and he was made later that he had turned into Roberts.
“The fence at the end of English Bluff Road was installed by the City of Delta at the request of the Delta police following his exam in a Delta senior who crossed the border and died at point Roberts “Said the city in a statement.
Delta police said the incident with the missing man stressed the importance of proactive measures to prevent similar problems in the future.

The measure aims to improve communities safety by attenuating the risk of similar incidents that occurred in the future, police said in a statement.
A person who now crosses the border at this location must first deliberately cross the fence.
Delta city councilor Daniel Boisvert said that the case had never been presented to the council.
Immigration lawyer Len Saunders told Global News that the 1800-year-old Ghent Treaty said that no obstacle can be less than 10 feet or 3.05 meters from the Canada-American border.
“The moment is so ironic,” said Saunders. “My immediate reaction was” (Donald) Trump … But it is the Canadians who do it. »»
Not everyone is against.
Al Thomas, a Tsawwassen resident, said that he saw people crossing the border all the time near his house and that they don’t even seem to see the signaling.
“If that prevents people from accidentally walking it … of course,” said Thomas about the fence.
The International Limits Commission told Global News that it had not authorized the work and that it was investigating.
The first Tsawwassen nation said it had no comments.
