New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day are reserved for amateurs. People drink too much while making resolutions that will last two weeks.
The true start of the new year, for those who care about equality and fairness, is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a holiday that highlights realistic and admirable, if difficult, goals to achieve.
We can assume that Dr. King would have approved of the growth of women’s sports and admired Lynx star Napheesa Collierco-founder of Unrivaled, the three-on-three women’s basketball league that began play last week in Miami.
Women’s sport has grown so quickly over the past two years that its current challenge is to keep up the pace.
It appears they have a chance to do just that, and it appears Minnesota continues to be among the pioneers in creating and supporting women’s sports teams.
In no particular order, here are some triumphs in Minnesota and national women’s sports:
