SIKESTON, Mo. (KFVS) – A man is accused of stealing hundreds of dollars from a Heartland business using a “quick change” tactic.
Dominique X. Ezell, 34, of Stone Mountain, Georgia, was charged with theft in Scott County.
According to the Sikeston Department of Public Safety, the incident was reported on Saturday, January 18 at a retail business in the area. They say the incident happened the night before and surveillance video was given to police.
Investigators say while the suspect was in the store, he asked the cashier to exchange larger bills for smaller bills. They say he then continually spoke to the cashier to try to distract the cashier and confuse them into asking for the original bill after receiving the small bills they had initially asked to exchange for smaller bills.
After obtaining a description of the suspect, officers say they learned that Miner police had arrested a person matching the description for a similar incident at a business in Miner.
The suspect was identified as Ezell and he is being held on a Scott County warrant with a $1,000 cash bond.
According to Sikeston DPS, if a similar incident occurred at other businesses in the area, they should contact their local jurisdiction to report the crime.
