Your support helps us tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story develops. From investigating the finances of Elon Musk’s pro-Trump PAC to producing our latest documentary, “The A Word,” which spotlights American women fighting for their reproductive rights, we know how important it is to analyze the facts from messaging.
At such a critical moment in U.S. history, we need journalists on the ground. Your donation allows us to continue sending journalists to speak on both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the political spectrum. And unlike many other quality media outlets, we choose not to exclude Americans from our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe that quality journalism should be accessible to all, paid for by those who can afford it.

Jeremy Clarkson shared a health update just months after the former Higher speed host underwent emergency surgery to save his life on his heart in October.
THE Clarkson’s Farm hostwho recently sever professional ties with Grand Tour co-stars Richard Hammond and James Maysaid a doctor told him he was “maybe” days away from dying.
Clarkson began having difficulty swimming from a boat to the beach while vacationing on a small island, explaining that: “It wasn’t far, maybe the length of two swimming pools.” But when I finally reached the beach, there was more water in my lungs than in Lake Superior, and I was almost dead.
His worries were exacerbated when he struggled to climb stairs without holding someone’s hand. He said Sunday time: “I’m not exaggerating. These issues all showed up within a day.
While filming new episodes of Who wants to be a millionaire? the 64-year-old gave an update on his new routine and diet, reports the Online mail.
Clarkson said: “My phone lit up this morning saying, ‘You’re taking a lot fewer steps this week than last.’ I thought, “Yeah, I would be as I’m sitting here.” This also indicates that you eat a lot less sausage. I sit here and eat celery. I feel better on it. I feel very good.
Clarkson added that he also said he was now seeing a dietitian. He said: “I went to see a dietitian. The dietitian gave me a pretty good list and said, “Don’t eat processed foods.” If it contains more than one ingredient, don’t eat it. I feel good.
Clarkson said the “sudden deterioration” which “began to accelerate” left him particularly concerned after the death of Alex Salmond following a heart attack.
However, after undergoing several checks, including an electrocardiogram (ECG), the presenter was told he was not having a heart attack – but was “possibly” days away from death.
Clarkson wrote: “It appears that of the arteries supplying my heart with nourishing blood, one was completely blocked and the second of three was heading in that direction.
“So he cut a hole in my wrist, inserted his Dyno-Rod equipment and went in to take a closer look. The question was this. Were the arteries so damaged that I would need emergency heart bypass surgery? Or could he use his Dyno-Rods and ultrasound rams to loosen them before inserting a stent? »
Clarkson said that “luckily” the doctor was able to insert a stent, which he said “wasn’t particularly painful – just strange.”
