Call it pancakes at the planetarium.
Montour is scheduled to visit Mars as part of a girls-boys doubleheader Saturday morning.
The girls meet first at 10 a.m. in a battle for fourth place in Section 3-5A.
The host Fightin’ Planets is fourth with a 2-3 sectional record, one game ahead of the Spartans at 1-4.
Mars (7-6) will visit Montour (6-7) in two weeks on January 31.
The boys’ match will begin at 11:30 a.m. as Montour (11-1), first in the standings, will face Mars (8-6).
The Spartans are a perfect 6-0 in sectional play and have won five in a row.
The Fightin’ Planets are tied for third place with Moon, behind Montour and Chartiers Valley in Section 4-5A.
Mars is 4-2 in the section but has lost three of its last five games.
Disputed neighbors try again
The top two teams in WPIAL women’s basketball Section 3-3A are not only next to each other in the standings, they are also across from each other on a map.
Seton LaSalle leads the way with a 6-0 sectional record and has won 10 of its 13 games this season.
Keystone Oaks is in second place with a 4-1 sectional record and 10-1 overall record.
The Rebels have won four in a row since losing to Elizabeth Forward over the holidays.
The Golden Eagles have won seven straight since losing to Seton LaSalle on Dec. 12, 60-57.
KO looks to even the score and standings when they host Seton at 6:30 p.m. in their scheduled matchup on Thursday.
More section makeup circles
With recent bad weather, the Saturday schedule for sectional district basketball games has increased.
The other two competitions besides the three mentioned above include:
• In the 3-3A boys section, Seton LaSalle (5-9) visits Shady Side Academy (4-9) at 5:30 p.m. The Rebels are 2-2 and in fourth place in the section while the host Bulldogs are 2-1 and hoping to remain tied for second place with South Park.
• The 2-A girls section features Geibel Catholic (13-1) which will play at West Greene (9-3) at noon. The Gators sit in second place, one game behind Clairton in the loss column with a 6-1 sectional record. The Pioneers are 3-3 and currently tied for fourth place with Bishop Canevin.
The supremacy of the Allegheny rug
The final county wrestling tournament of the season began Friday and concludes Saturday with the 2025 Allegheny County Championships.
Games are held at Fox Chapel with 32 county schools participating.
There will be three other tournaments Saturday involving more than one WPIAL school. They include events in Mercer, Clearfield and Brookville.
