WASHINGTON (TNND) — Radio host and comedian Charlamagne tha God on Monday condemned “liberals” for celebrating the conviction of President-elect Donald Trump last week.

Trump was sentenced Friday following his felony conviction in his hush money case in New York. He received an unconditional release, meaning the president-elect will serve no prison time.

Charlamagne, whose legal name is Lenard McKelvey, condemned those on the political left who celebrated the fact that the conviction officially made Trump a criminal.

“What a waste of time,” McKelvey said. “Pure political theater.”

“They were never, ever going to convict a former president or a sitting president for anything,” he continued. “And what was even more ridiculous was seeing the liberals celebrating this. Like, it’s not a victory. Who cares if you can call him a convicted felon when you still have to call him president for the next four years?”

He also spoke out against Fulton County Prosecutor Fani Willis for asking the Georgia Supreme Court to reinstate her in Trump’s election interference case.

“They should not continue to pursue this case,” McKelvey said. “It’s a waste of time. They’re not going to do anything to him.

“Nothing will happen,” he added. “What’s going to happen?” Nothing will happen. It’s just political theater. This is stupidity.

His comments followed Trump’s post on Truth Social in which he announced he would appeal the sentence.

“As the American people saw it, this ‘case’ had no crime, no damage, no evidence, no facts, no law, only a very confrontational judge, a star witness who is a disbarred serial perjurer , disgraced and an electoral criminal. Interference,” he wrote. “Today’s event was a despicable charade, and now that it is over, we will appeal this hoax, which has no merit, and restore Americans’ confidence in our once great system of justice. LET’S MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!

McKelvey last week condemned former President Barack Obama for “terrible political optics” after he had a conversation with Trump at former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral.

“After you were so harsh, you know, calling someone a threat to democracy and calling someone a fascist, and now you know, buddy-buddy with this man – you told us that he was a threat to democracy,” McKelvey noted. . “To me, that’s just terrible political optics.”

“And by the way, I’m also a person who called him a fascist, but not because of what the Democrats said, but because of what I heard coming out of his mouth,” he said. he added.

McKelvey notably interviewed Trump’s former political opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, at a town hall meeting in October.
