Washington – Today, Representative Mike Thompson (CA-04) applauded the Biden-Harris administration for his record-breaking work to expand health care coverage for Americans.

“A record 24 million Americans have signed up for health care coverage through the Affordable Care Act since November,” said Thompson. “More people have health insurance today than ever before in our nation’s history. Thanks to the leadership of President Biden and Vice President Harris, the number of Americans receiving health care coverage through the ACA has nearly doubled over the past four years.

“I remain committed to building on this progress, starting with extending the ACA premium tax credit this year and extending my legislation providing telehealth access to Medicare beneficiaries. The extension of the tax credit is particularly crucial. If Congress does not extend it, 28,000 residents in our district will pay an average of $1,279 more in annual premiums.

BACKGROUND

The Biden-Harris administration set another all-time record for enrollment in the ACA Marketplace, with nearly 24 million Americans signing up for coverage one week before the 2025 open enrollment period.

In total, 45 million Americans receive coverage through the ACA, either through the Marketplace expansion or the Medicaid expansion.

Today’s milestone builds on a remarkable record of success over the past four years. More and more Americans have health insurance, with the uninsured rate at an all-time high. The Biden-Harris Administration has set a new all-time record for ACA Marketplace enrollment each year since the President and Vice President took office.
