Federal agencies face unprecedented challenges in managing the rapid pace of technological change. While traditional methods of change management and training often fail to keep pace with continuous updates, changing priorities and new systems, innovative solutions such as digital adoption platforms (DAP) are emerging to helping agencies streamline operations, improve compliance, and accelerate mission readiness.

“Effective communication and user engagement are essential,” says Nicholas Vinson, senior product manager for the U.S. Army, in a new video panel discussing the military’s digital transformation. “We have moved from a traditional waterfall development model to a more agile approach, starting with minimally viable products and incorporating real-time user feedback. This change helps us adapt tools to user needs and reduces resistance to change.

DAPs, such as those developed by WalkMe, act as a “GPS for software adoption,” says Carl Wright, vice president of regulated industries at WalkMe, guiding users through complex workflows in real time. “Just like a navigation app efficiently directs you to your destination, WalkMe layers on top of apps to provide real-time, contextual guidance, reducing friction and errors,” says Wright.

These platforms address critical challenges, including the complexity of federal systems and the diverse, multi-generational workforce. “Whether you’re 18 or close to retirement, DAPs offer tailored support, helping users complete their tasks with confidence, without lengthy training sessions,” says Wright.

While the Army is still exploring these platforms, Vinson highlighted their potential. “They could make training more efficient, reduce support needs and improve data accuracy,” he says. “Real-time guidance built into the app minimizes errors and allows our staff to focus on critical tasks. »

DAPs also improve governance and compliance by monitoring tool usage and guiding users to approved solutions. “Instead of simply blocking unauthorized tools, we educate users about alternatives and best practices,” says Wright. “This proactive approach supports responsible use of AI and other emerging technologies. »

For federal agencies, the benefits of DAPs extend beyond improving workflows. They provide actionable insights for data-driven decision making, helping organizations streamline their software investments and maximize productivity.

“Adopting these platforms could be transformative, future-proofing our operations and allowing our staff to seamlessly adapt to new technologies, ensuring mission success in a rapidly changing landscape,” says Vinson.

Learn how WalkMe’s digital adoption platform integrates with an agency’s technology infrastructure, providing real-time guidance and automation to staff and citizens.
