SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – It’s been a tough year for some small businesses on Commercial Street in north Springfield.
But some business owners say there’s new hope for the new year.
“It’s not like it used to be,” Corie Godspy.
She is one of the owners of Moon City Pub.
“I think people still have that Hotel Missouri mindset, a lot of the homeless community. But it really is, over the last 5 to 10 years, it’s really booming,” she said.

She also owns the pub.
“I feel like the businesses here are very appealing to people who haven’t seen us before, because I hear about them a lot,” she said.
Both women say that although a few retailers have recently closed their doors on the street, business in this corridor is still booming.
“Everyone who closed, it was under different circumstances. It’s not just one thing. It’s not the economy. It’s not C Street itself. It’s just that different things happened,” Godspy said.
Perry said: “It concerns me for them, but not so much for C Street because I know we are dynamic. »
Godspy explains that several other stores have popped up recently.
“Ladoux, they are ready to open this weekend. Springfield Merchantile has just reopened. La Rue, a French restaurant is preparing to open in the spring. Ruthie’s is off C Street, they’re not on C Street anymore but they’re only half a block away, they just reopened. There are still things that are opening up. It just happened at the same time that a few of these businesses closed their doors, which is sad,” she said.
Perry believes the neighborhood is on the verge of returning to what it was.
“Back when everyone from our neighboring neighborhoods all came to C Street to shop. I totally think he has that potential again. We just have to stick it out and make it happen,” she said.
