Although there is no way to guarantee longevity, your lifestyle can significantly increase your chances of living longer.

A doctor has shared vital advice on how to extend life expectancy through diet and lifestyle changes.

The Indiana Center for Recovery’s chief medical officer, Dr. Michael Kane, spoke to GB News to highlight the importance of nutrition, saying it is “essential above all else.”

Her recommendations focused on incorporating whole, plant-based foods while limiting processed options, combined with proactive health management.

Dr Kane said: “Longevity is influenced by a mixture of genetic, lifestyle and environmental factors, and although we cannot change our genes, there is much we can do to improve our habits and our environment. »

For your diet, try to stock up on nutritious whole foods while reducing the amount of sugar and processed foods you eat.

The doctor continued: “I believe that a nutritious diet is above all essential. Eating more whole, plant-based foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts and seeds can significantly reduce the risk of chronic diseases like heart disease and diabetes. That’s why I recommend them.”

Her dietary advice focuses specifically on incorporating natural, unprocessed ingredients as a foundation for a longer, healthier life.

Beyond dietary recommendations, Dr. Kane suggested a holistic approach to a healthy lifestyle. He stressed the importance of limiting processed foods, sugar and unhealthy fats in the daily diet.

The medical expert also emphasizes the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle and getting enough sleep.

Building strong social connections is another key part of his longevity recommendations. These lifestyle factors combine with proper nutrition to promote overall health and longevity.

He concluded: “As they say, prevention is better than cure. Do regular check-ups with your doctor, stay up to date on vaccinations and screen for health problems early to help you anticipate potential problems.

“On top of that, combine this with avoiding harmful habits like smoking and excessive alcohol consumption.”
