PARK CITY, Utah — After a successful first phase of its charging pilot project, fulFILLed Lifestyle Co. has received a second grant for sustainable tourism. The first grant aimed to help local property management companies transition from single-use equipment to refillable toiletries. The second grant, for a little more than $21,000, aims to implement the concept in hotels.
Boutique hotels are the ideal candidate for the next phase
Kimberly Flores is currently looking for boutique hotels to sign up for this phase of the project. “Most of the hotel chains we spoke with have preferred providers, but boutique hotels are perfect for this sustainable tourism subsidy,” she said. “The project covers the cost of premium dispensers, brand labels, staff training and marketing.”
fulFILLed Lifestyle Co. sources luxury, non-toxic shampoos, conditioners and bath soaps. These are the only products that pilot participants pay for. Single-use plastics are completely eliminated from the chain. When the hotel uses its initial five-gallon supply, fulFILLed Lifestyle Co. collects the five-gallon containers, cleans them, refills them and delivers the new products to the hotel.

The grant also includes funding for operations and logistics. This will include a cart and new sink for fulFILLed Lifestyle Co. The grant provides enough equipment for 300 dispensers, which can equip 100 to 150 rooms, depending on the hotel’s choices. Through fulFILLed Lifestyle Co.’s efforts toward non-toxic products, they are leading the way for luxury hotels to prepare for the future. Flores and her partner Paige Garrity only work with manufacturers who create products that are free of fragrances, SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate), parabens and phthalates.
Why some ingredients are undesirable
Phthalates are hormone-disrupting chemicals for which studies on humans show a link between exposure to phthalates and the development of chronic diseases, including allergies, asthma, obesity and type 2 diabetes. They are found in many perfumes and cosmetic products.
Skin irritation tends to increase with concentration in SLS and the duration of direct contact. Parabens are a family of chemicals used as preservatives in cosmetics to prevent the growth of harmful mold and bacteria.
