Sony Interactive Entertainment Boss Hermen Hulst told the BBC the company wanted to raise PlayStationIP outside of video games in the broader entertainment industry. The Sony Group is in a unique position to achieve this goal with dedicated entertainment teams like Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions, and the company wants to capitalize on this.
God of War is the next big PlayStation IP to get a TV show
The Amazon God of War series suffered a slight setback recently as the departures of its showrunner and executive producers led to a complete reset. However, Sony still seems optimistic about the move, and Hulst told the BBC he was looking forward to it.
“I hope to elevate the PlayStation IP outside of just the gaming category and elevate it so that it fits comfortably into the entertainment industry as a whole.” he added.
PlayStation Productions has already helped launch two successful projects in The Last of Us, HBO series And Unexplored film. Although the latter received mixed critical reception, it was a commercial success. TLOU, on the other hand, was both a critical and commercial success.
A TV show based on Hulst’s own baby, the Horizon series, is no longer moving forward at Netflix…for now, at least.
