If there was any doubt, well, there shouldn’t have been.

By the time the NFL abruptly backed away from its commitment to not play games when Dec. 25 arrives on a Tuesday or Wednesday, it was obvious that the NFL would find a way to play multiple games any day of the week. be Christmas Day.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones confirmed the obvious during his weekly appearance Tuesday on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas. Whenever Christmas happens, professional football will also take place.

“Christmas Day is Christmas Day, and he doesn’t wait for the day he is” Jones said, via Christian Arnold of New York Post. “We want to be there on Christmas Day. . . . I think the future is that whatever day it is, we’ll be there by Christmas.

Wednesday is the hardest day to achieve this. And it really wasn’t that hard to do. Ask the teams playing that day to play on Saturday the week before, and it’s no different than a Sunday-Thursday turnaround.

Tuesday is even easier. Four (or six) teams that would have played on Sunday have their matches postponed by two days. Then they all play the following Sunday.

That’s longer than the usual short week, which has just three days off between games. With four days off between Tuesday and Sunday, it’s obvious.

From the moment the NFL said there will be no games When Christmas games were on Tuesday or Wednesday, we knew that was going to change. Firstly, there is way too much money to be made. Second, why give up the day to the NBA?

It’s a captive audience, like Thanksgiving. Even on Netflix, money and audiences will justify removing games from the Sunday afternoon competition group.

So yes, it’s permanent. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Wednesday, Friday, Sunday, Saturday. If Christmas comes on a day ending in “Y”, the NFL will play games on December 25.
