Steubenville – La Trinity Health System School of Medical Laboratory Science is a graduate of its sixth class, composed of Mary Dagan and Alivia Miller, on June 20 in the Trinity West chapel, followed by a reception in the private dining room.
The Trinity program extends over 11 months and is designed for students who hold a baccalaureate in biology or a related field or which ends a diploma in medical laboratory science at the Youngstown State University.
“This year’s class was very dedicated to the profession,” said Constance L. Moore, program director. “They have continuously excelled in the conference and the parts of the program program, as well as in the stand outside the hospital cafeteria with games and prices during the National Week for Professionals of the Medical Laboratory.”
Dagan graduated from the University of Mount Union, winning a baccalaureate in Biology Sciences before registering for the program. Miller is a senior of the YSU who obtained credits as part of the Trinity Health System program to meet the requirements of a baccalaureate in science in medical laboratory sciences.
The MLS program culminates with a certificate which allows graduates to take a national certification exam through the American Society for Clinical Pathology.
“I would like the community to realize that hospital laboratories should use quality and very educated professionals to ensure reliable results for patients,” said Moore.
While most patients see doctors, nurses and other allied health professionals, including phlebotomist who takes the blood of a patient, scientists from the medical laboratory and technicians carry out complex behind -the -scenes, manually and on sophisticated instruments, from which doctors will base their decisions regarding diagnosis and treatment.
