Microsoft Asks certain managers to assess employees according to how much they use IA Internally, and the software giant plans to add a metric linked to this in its examination processBusiness Insider learned.

Julia Liuson, president of the Microsoft division responsible for developer tools such as the AI coding service Github co -pilotRecently sent an email asking managers to assess employee performance according to their use of internal AI tools like this.

“AI is now a fundamental part of the way we work,” Liuson wrote. “Like collaboration, data focused on data and effective communication, the use of AI is no longer optional – it is at the heart of each role and all levels.”

Liuson has told managers that AI “should be part of your holistic reflections on the performance and impact of an individual.”

Microsoft’s performance requirements vary from team to team, and some consider in particular a more formal metric on the use of internal AI tools in performance reviews for their next exercise, according to a person familiar with the situation. This person asked not to be identified to discuss private issues.

These changes aim to approach what Microsoft considers an internal adoption behind its Co -pilot AI services, according to two other people knowing the plans. The company wishes to increase the use widely, but also wants employees to build these products have a better understanding of the tools.

In the organization of Liuson, Github Copilot faces an increasing competition from the Coding services of the AI, in particular the cursor. Microsoft allows employees to use certain external AI tools that meet certain security requirements. Staff is currently authorized to use the assistant coding fell, for example, one of the people said.

A recent note from Barclays has cited data suggesting that the cursor has recently exceeded the Github co -pilot in a key element in the developer market.

Competition between coding tools even becomes a collision point in Microsoft renegotiation of its most important partnership with Openai. OPENAI plans to acquire the competitor of the Windsurf cursor, but Microsoft’s current agreement with OPENAI would give it access to the intellectual property of Windisurf and neither Windsurf nor Openai wishes, according to a person who knew the talks.
