South Texas Health System to host Transform your health and well-being life aimed at encouraging RGV residents to adopt a healthier lifestyle
Encouraging a healthy life thanks to regular physical activity and even more, the annual community event of STHS will present family activities focused on the spirit, the body and the soul
If you hope to lead a long and healthy life, it is important to develop healthy habits like staying physically active, eat well and manage stress.
“Health experts estimate that around 25% of the variation in human life is determined by genetics,” explains Tom Castañeda, director of the marketing and public relations system, South Texas Health System. “But the rest can be largely attributed to the way we take care of our body, especially if we want to enjoy a good quality of life as we age.”
A healthy lifestyle, which includes a regular exercise and good nutrition, has a positive impact on physical and mental well-being.
It can considerably reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as heart attack and brain vascular accidents, improve energy levels and improve an individual’s overall quality of life.
Unfortunately, a small percentage of Americans – less than 3% – leads a healthy lifestyle, according to a recent study by researchers from Oregon State University, which means the failure to satisfy ideal “healthy lifestyle” criteria that reduce the risk of a person’s heart disease, the main cause of death in the United States. These standards include the exercise of at least 150 minutes per week, maintaining a body mass index (BMI) less than 20% for men and 30% for women, a diet that aligns with nutritional guidelines and do not smoke.
The good news: families that engage in shared healthy habits tend to feel better global long-term health, which leads to increased happiness, to improve mental well-being and to a greater feeling of connection within the family unit.
“Healthy lifestyles are often maintained at home. “Together, family members can support each other and encourage each other to take advantage of the advantages of a healthy and active lifestyle.”
Thus, to help highlight the many ways in which families can lead a healthy lifestyle as a unit, South Texas Health System is organizing its fifth annual day of health and well-being of Transform Your Life, a free event featuring attractive and family activities that focus on the body, mind and mind.
Taking place on Saturday July 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Texas A & M Higher Education Center in McAllen – located at 6200 very Lagos Blvd. – The event will feature zumba, yoga, pickleball and other exercise courses, healthy kitchen demonstrations, mental health activities and special community exhibition to highlight locally available resources to help you carry out a healthy lifestyle.
“Community fitness programs and recreational facilities in city parks and hiking and bicycle trails, there are many options available for residents of the Rio Grande Valley to help them lead a healthy lifestyle,” explains Castañeda. “Thanks to our annual day of health and well-being of Transform Your Life, we give members of the community a taste of these offers and helping them to take the first steps for a healthier life. Together, we can be healthy and stay healthy! ”
