UVA Health received two anonymous $ 25 million succession donations to support the Paul and Diane Manning Institute of Biotechnology from the University of Virginia. The additional support of $ 50 million for the Institute has enabled UVA Health to exceed its fundraising target of $ 1 billion in the UVA Honor The Future campaign, which ends this month.
“I am deeply grateful for the generosity and the vision of these donors, whose contributions will help us to achieve the full potential of the Manning Institute and to all those who helped Uva Health to reach this stage,” said UVA president Jim Ryan. “These extraordinary gifts will support the research of the Manning Institute and will help develop new treatments for difficult to treat or incurable diseases, which will change life through Commonwealth and Beyond.”
An installation of four floors and 350,000 square feet which will house the Manning Institute is already under construction in the Fontaine Research Park. Once finished, this Center for Research, Development and Biomedical Manufacturing of Pointe will support the Institute’s mission to generate new treatments and healing for the most difficult medical conditions, for the benefit of patients around the world. The Institute is expected to cultivate a biotechnological innovation ecosystem in the center of Virginia and stimulate economic growth through Commonwealth. These efforts will be supplemented by a network of clinical trials at the level of the state which will expand access to new potential treatments as they are developed and tested.
The Manning Institute was launched in 2023 with a $ 100 million head gift from its homonyms, the Philanthropes Paul and Diane Manning, followed by significant investments of $ 100 million in Commonwealth and $ 150 million from UVA. The two succession donations are added to the momentum of the Institute.
“I am so grateful for these two generous gifts, which are based on the incredible support we have received from Paul and Diane Manning, heads of state and university to launch the institute,” said Mark T. Esser, PHD, scientific director and head of the Manning Institute. “Uva Health’s mission is to transform health and inspire hope, and these gifts will allow us to be at the forefront of this transformer work for the health system.”
More than 52,000 donors have given the Honor the Future campaign to support patient care, research, education and community awareness missions of UVA Health. Together, these donors help the organization achieve the objectives of its strategic plan at 10 years old, an extension of the university’s big and good plan.
“Everyone at UVA Health is deeply grateful for all the support we have received in the Honor The Future campaign,” said Mitchell H. Rosner, MD, active executive vice-president of the UVA for health affairs. “These gifts are essential to our ability continues to support the incredible work that occurs here every day to serve residents of Virginia and beyond.”
The Honor The Future campaign is the largest in the history of the UVA. It was launched publicly in October 2019 to coincide with the bicentenary of the University Foundation. More than $ 6 billion was collected in UVA schools and units, exceeding a record goal of $ 5 billion for the campaign, which officially ends on June 30.
“The realization of this record for fundraising for the health funds of the UVA reflects the generosity of many former students, recognizing patients, community members and visionary philanthropists. We are more than grateful to their confidence and support, who positioned UVA Health to continue to provide clinical care, advance research, provide a high medical and nurse education Ken Botsford, MD, The Honor the Future Campaign Vice-President of Health which graduated from 1975 from the College of Arts & Sciences and a graduate of the School of Medicine in 1979. “The success of this campaign testifies to doctors, nurses, researchers, teachers and UVA health personnel whose dedication and exceptionalism have inspired these contributions.”
