To meet the growing demand for patient care in the west side of Cleveland, the Cleveland Clinic has announced its intention to considerably expand the Avon hospital and the family health center of Richard E. Jacobs. The $ 340 million project would almost double the size of the campus, which is located off Nogel Road in Avon.
The expansion of the Avon hospital will include the addition of a boter tower to increase the capacity of hospitalized patients, new operating rooms, greater emergency service and more laboratory and imaging space. Opened in 2016 as a five -storey establishment and 126 beds, the Avon hospital has experienced sustained growth in demand for its services in the past nine years.
“Our region is continuously evolving, and thanks to the approach of the Cleveland Clinic submarket, we can adapt to meet the needs of patients as they change,” said Tom Mihaljevic, MD, CEO and president and president CEO of Morton L. Mandel, Cleveland Clinic. “We are proud to share our plans to develop with this growing area. We are engaging in all the communities we serve, and projects like this are one of the ways we reinvest in patient care and our establishments so that we can take care of more people. “
Since 2017, there has been an increase of more than 40% of surgeries and admissions to Avon hospital as well as an increase of almost 75% of imaging services. The hospital also operates one of the most popular laboratories in the Cleveland Clinic health system. The Avon Hospital currently offers a wide range of services, including radiology, pharmacy, laboratory and cardiac catheterization services, an intensive care unit and a primary stroke center.
“This initiative will increase our ability to provide world class care in this region,” said Jorge A. Guzman, MD, MBA, president of the Cleveland Clinic Northeast Ohio Market. “Lorain county communities have increased quickly and we want to make sure that patients have access to the care they need near us. This expansion will allow us to take care of more patients and support increasingly complex care. ”
To meet the growing need for ambulatory services and improve access to preventive and specialized care, the Cleveland Clinic will also broaden the Richard E. Jacobs Family Health Center with approximately 90 additional examination rooms and the expansion of cancer services, including radiotherapy. Opened in 2011, the establishment currently provides advanced specialties and primary care, an ambulatory surgery center, a chemotherapy infusion center, an imaging center and a large physiotherapy area with two pools for aquatic therapy.
In addition, it is planned to add a parking lot to the Avon campus, which will guarantee practical access to patients, visitors and staff as the facilities expand their services.
“This expansion is an example of how we are committed to supporting our western communities on the side,” said Neil P. Smith, the president of the western submarket of the Cleveland Clinic. “With important construction and initiatives and initiatives at Fairview hospital, we will be well placed to provide complete and quality care for the coming years in this area.”
Work on a new cancer center, the medical office building and the parking lot of Fairview hospital is expected to start later this year. With the Avon Campus project, this represents an investment of $ 600 million in the western submarket of the Cleveland Clinic. Philanthropy will also help speed up progress and succeed.
The construction of Avon projects should start in 2026 with the completion scheduled for 2028.
