Columbia, SC (WIS) – A Midlands school district said that its staff had been paid and that the changes are in force following a recent cyber attack.

The Lexington-Richland Five school district confirmed on Tuesday in Wis that the bonuses of teachers affected by hacking had since been paid.

“The survey of the data district data security incident revealed that some data had been taken from the district network,” said a spokesperson. “We are still working with third -party experts to determine the scope and nature of the affected data. If sensitive data has been affected, the district will follow the expert judicial and legal recommendations to resolve this problem. As the investigation progresses, we will hold the informed council of any concern.

The superintendent of the LR5, Akil E. Ross, said as soon as possible this month that the financial, university and technological teams were able to operate in a safe way to ensure that the wage bill of June 15 could be completed and the payments distributed in time.

The district initially launched an investigation on June 4 after detecting a “data security incident”. The hack prevented the retention premiums from going out on time for staff after being scheduled on June 6.

New technology director named

LR5 also appointed Kendrick Davis on Tuesday as its new director of technology. Davis will take over for Jenny Garris, who said that the officials “took a new position outside the district”.

The district said that Davis is currently a specialist in technological infrastructure with LR5 and has also worked as a specialist in information systems resources and as a district information resources technician. LR5 added that Davis has more than 20 years of experience and previously served in the United States army.

“I am deeply honored and grateful to have been selected to lead the Lexington-Richland five school technology department,” Davis said in a statement provided by LR5. “I am really enthusiastic about this new role and the possibility of continuing to conduct innovation and progress in education through the effective use of technology. Confiding in this position means a lot for me, and I agree to do my best to serve our district with excellence. ”
