• UC San Diego’s School of Global Policy and Strategy presents the conference. “The Uncaged Lion: The Story of India’s Institutional and Economic Renaissance” to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8 at the UCSD Great Hall, 9810 International Lane, La Jolla. Atanu Chakraborty, former Economic Affairs Secretary of India, will discuss India’s thriving economy and the challenges it faces in realizing its ambitions of becoming a global manufacturing power. • The 2025 Collaborative peer learning The program includes multi-part monthly classes taught by local experts beginning in January at the La Jolla Community Center, 6811 La Jolla Blvd. All classes will be held at 2:45 p.m. The first, led by Lori Holmes, will take place on January 9, 16, 28 and 30 and will feature four films from the 1960s, watched at home and discussed in class. $15 per class for Community Center members, $35 for non-members. ljcommunitycenter.org/plc

• The birch aquarium at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography welcomes “The Pacific incarnate: an invisible ocean” at 2300 Expedition Way, La Jolla. The installation features 11 projects blending art and science in interactive experiences focused on the scientific exploration of the oceans.
