San Antonio – Wet and gray days earlier this month San Antonio Super-Trempé and beyond have given way to lush greenery.
Everything, from grass to trees, seems well watered following storms.
Now this opens the way to an explosion of color in the sky with airborne fireworks for the July 4 holidays.
During some previous seasons, including the days preceding the day before the New Year 2024, rockets and bottle missiles with fins were among the fireworks that were prohibited in the region.
Drought conditions have made the use of these articles dangerous due to the fire potential.
Currently, at least five counties – including Bexar, Comal, Guadalupe, Atascosa and Wilson – have raised their burn prohibitions and have deleted restrictions on these fireworks.
“To be able to celebrate America and fireworks are one of those things that everyone loves,” said Scott Quidley with Mr. W Fireworks.
In a few minutes after opening the doors of the fireworks warehouse, located on the farm at the 1346 marketing near Foster Road, Quidley impatiently provided for the arrival of customers.
Quidley said the lifting of prohibitions has become a new welcome.
“Just last season, the New Year, we could not sell (Bottle Rockets) because of Burn’s ban,” said Quidley. “But with all the rain, we are able to sell each fireworks that we have.”
Quidley did not hesitate to show all the products of the warehouse shelves, an assortment of articles that go “Bang!” Or burst into different colors.
However, he said, traditionally, nothing attracted more attention than the bottle rockets and other articles that shoot the sky.
Although drought conditions and prohibitions can often affect sales of fireworks, this year, there is a new concern for those who buy and sell them.
Fireworks, many of which are imported from China, could be subject to prices imposed by the Trump administration on certain imported articles.
In some cases, this could mean an increase in price fireworks or a decrease in the availability of certain elements.
However, Quidley said that Mr. W Fireworks had supplied before the tariffs.
“We have not increased our prices,” said Quidley. “The prices had no problem with the fireworks here in MW.”
Although fireworks are authorized in most counties in the region, they are still illegal in certain municipalities, including San Antonio.
Anyone who uses fireworks in the uncomfortable areas is invited to do so with caution.
The Comté de Bexar commissioner recommends appointing someone to extinguish all worn fireworks with water.
The provost of fires also reminded the celebrants that the use of fireworks is illegal within 600 feet of a church, a hospital, a childcare center, a school or a nursing home; Less than 100 feet from any place where liquids, gases or flammable fireworks are stored; and in or at any vehicle.
