Grand Junction, Colorado (KJCT) – The Colorado Department of Transportation is launching its new speed application program. The program comes after what CDOT calls a “record year for the deaths of the work area”. With nearly 600 work zone accidents and 31 deaths in 2024, CDOT indicates that this program is vital for security. “The work areas can sometimes be unpredictable, you can cross it one day and the next day, it is in a new configuration. If you accelerate, it can make the conditions more dangerous,” said Stacia Venders, spokesperson for the CDOT, “there will be two cameras installed if the average speed is on a vehicle by a work area.”
The cameras have already been installed on the Colorado Highway 1-19, but the application will not start before the fall of 2025. “We plan to issue warnings at the end of July, then in the fall of this year, we issue civil sanctions for excess in these work areas,” said Felders.
The penalty of this speed violation will be a fine of $ 75.
