Asheville, NC (Wlos) – Summer holidays do not prevent the little ones from obtaining skills that could lead to successful careers.

The Asheville Museum of Sciences offers an eight -week summer camp that explores everything related to science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The museum has developed a creative way of engaging children as young as five years in a wide range of STEM quarries. Kindergarten to the fifth year has spent Friday gaining practical experience, diving into the world of dinosaurs and traveling in time through history.

Each day, a different educational activity surrounding STEM is explored – a set of skills that 80% of jobs will need by 2030, according to Amanda Bryant, executive director of the Asheville Science Museum.

“More and more jobs for the work that is happening in the world and has a STEM component,” said Bryant. “There are not enough people who are embarking on STEM careers at the moment.”

The program exposes students to a wider workforce while ensuring that they do not undergo losses learning during the summer months.

“There are a lot of programs that focus on high school students entering the STEM fields. It’s not too late, but an early investment in the education of STEMs, you will have a bigger blow for your money,” said Bryant.

The STEM focused camp maintains children engaged all summer thanks to practical experiences and the creative resolution of problems, offering a means to young scientists to explore, discover and grow.
