Jenkins, McKeel wins the Ledger Big School, Small School All-Sports Award

Lakeland – George Jenkins was the main sports program during the three sports seasons, with improved performances in the fall and winter being the key, while the Eagles fled with the price of the Grandes écoles All -Sports, which ended a nine -year drought.

In the classification of small schools, a stronger finish in spring allowed McKeel to move away from Lakeland Christian to win consecutive prizes for the second time in the history of the school.

“We are delighted,” said Jenkins sports director Jestin Bailey. “It is always good to win a prize, especially when it is an All-Sports prize. It’s been a long time since we won it, so we are really excited, that.”

George Jenkins finished with 379 points. Lake Wales finished second with 331 points, and Winter Haven finished third with 303 points.

Last year, George Jenkins finished second, 10 points behind Winter Haven, but widened as a whole after fall and winter that his dominant spring performance could not overcome.

During the last school year, however, the autumn results of George Jenkins were much better than the previous year and set the tone for the year. The Eagles were carried out in the fall with a district title in the butts of Cross-Country and a district finalist in volleyball, golf boys and girls. Jenkins ended in the fall with 112 points, 21 points that last year, and finished tied with Lake Pays de Wales. Lakeland was third 109 points and the defending champion finished fourth with 89 points.

George Jenkins finished with 108 points in winter, 38 points more than last year. Jenkins won district titles in boys and football and wrestling girls for boys and a competitive joy -like title.

In the race for small schools, McKeel, the defending champion, finished with 294 points, 20 points ahead of Lakeland Christian. All Saints was a third distant with 197 points. It was the fifth title of McKeel in eight seasons. Lakeland Christian heads all schools with 22 All-Sports titles.

“I am excited for our athletes and coaches,” said McKeel sports director Chuck Smith. “We strive by a well -balanced educational experience, and athletics is part of this experience. I am extremely proud of our coaches and our athletes because I know that they devote a lot of time and effort to their sport. ”

McKeel and Lakeland Christian were elbow in the first two seasons. McKeel won the fall with 88 points, Victory Christian finished second with 87 points and the LCS points finished third with 85 points.

Lakeland Christian won the winter with 97 points, two more than McKeel, who had a slight advantage over LCS 183-182. LCS won district titles in women’s basketball and football for boys and girls and was also regional champion. McKeel won district titles in football boys and girls.

McKeel’s tennis teams have turned out to be the difference in winter. McKeel had 53 points combined for boys and girls tennis, while Lakeland Christian had only 12 points.
