The American Pamela Smith has already hiked through the continent in search of a better life for her family – and now she feels that she has found it on the border in Canada.
“Believe it or not, he went through a dream,” said Smith with a smile from his vision of Calgary and Alberta. “For any reason, I dreamed that I came here and that I was going to direct other people from the United States here.”
“So I told my husband:” I’m going to go up there, I’m going to spend a week there and see. ” And this week that I spent here, I was amazed. »»

The family has moved to a dream property of 46 acres with incredible views and adorable animals.
But, Smith said they never felt welcome in the state directly south of Alberta.

“Our children, being African-Americans, received a lot of looks in the store. And at some point, it became overwhelming, ”explains Smith. “In four years, our children did not make friends and it was simply very difficult for them. I was starting to see a real change in my children. ”

Now the Smith family is looking to make Calgary their house after being overwhelmed by the friendliness of the city.
“It breaks my heart, we have to make this movement, but it is better for our children with everything that is happening in the United States.”

“I know that everyone cannot afford to move, but I would say to look at Canada. Especially Calgary, ”said.
Smith said she was doing her best to inform people differences between the two countries so that they can make informed decisions.
“People are friendly, people are nicer – as well as our American dollar is a little more here.”

Conversely, she also talks about the realities she has known in America for those who seek to move south of the border.
“I have spoken to many Canadians and I don’t think they understand what is really going on in the United States.
“I would like them to go to the United States. Especially if they are a person of color, it’s really difficult there right now. ”

In Calgary, the diversity of the population, the abundance of parks and the activities for children are all large prints for Smith.

“People talk to you in stores. People say hello. The children play together in the park, and I loved it and I decided that this is where I want to stay. ”
Smith Home-Schools its three youngest children. She is in Calgary with them, while her husband stayed at five o’clock in Montana. For the moment, she goes back and forth on a tourist visa but explores how to ask for and secure the permanent residence.
