Twenty-five years old. The world of sports has produced countless indelible memories during the first quarter of the 21st century, and it would be a mammoth task to conjure them all in one place.
To help sift through all the dizzying heights, breathtaking feats, unforgettable players and teams, the Bleacher Report team came together to look back at the best of the last two and a half decades in sports – because, hey, remembering is part of why we’re all fans.
Today we present the 25 most incredible sports moments since January 1, 2000, the fifth in our six-part A Quarter Century series.
To determine rankings, a staff vote gave us our pool of finalists. Voters were asked to consider moments from plays and games that changed history, as well as incredible sporting feats that are still talked about years later. The more it remains engraved in the collective memory, the better. We’ve limited the list to one moment per game, series or event, so you’ll find things like LeBron James’ chase block and Kyrie Irving’s shot in the 2016 NBA Finals combined.
Once this was established, the rankings were submitted to a smaller committee of experts to produce the final order.
You can find other episodes of the series linked below, and don’t forget to check back on New Year’s Day as we reveal Part 6, a look at the stars of the next 25 years.
