Carson College of Business from Washington State University has published a report Offering information on the current state of the health care economy in the northwest of the Pacific.
The results examine the perceptions of the public concerning the affordability of the life of the elderly and the challenges under endowment, as well as the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI) in health care.
“Understanding what is in the minds of consumers with regard to life for the elderly is essential, not only for health care organizations and political decision -makers, but also for university establishments like WSU,” said Nancy Swangerfounding director of WSU GRANGER COBB Institute for Senior Living. “This informs how we prepare students to lasting and significant careers in this area. At the Granger Cobb Institute for Senior Living, we focus on the equipment of future leaders in ideas and empathy they need to meet consumers’ expectations and stimulate innovation in senior life. “
The report questioned 1,006 adults living in the northwest states of the Pacific of Washington, Oregon and Idaho. The survey used the data from the American census to guide the selection of participants, guaranteeing a balanced mixture of people based on factors such as age, sex, race, ethnicity, state of residence and level of education.
The main conclusions include:
Affairs remains an absolute priority for residents who are considering options for care for the elderly, 83% concerned with costs associated with aging care.
- Cost concerns (50%) and the quality of care (48%) are reflected in the most important factors that individuals would consider when decision -making for the elderly.
- Almost two thirds (65%) would prefer to age in place, against 25% who prefer a community of elderly lives.
- However, despite the preference for aging in place, most would be willing to move a loved one (60%) or themselves (63%) in a city, a city or a different state for a better community or care for the research of the elderly.
Sixty-five The percentage of respondents believe that there is a shortage of caregivers in their community, and 72% are concerned about the ability of their community to attract and retain qualified health professionals.
- Almost all respondents (95%) express their concern about the potential negative results of staff shortages, such as patient neglect and delays in routine care.
- Sixty and eleven The percentage of northwest residents of the Pacific generally see the same supplier for primary health care, but 18% see different suppliers.
- Among those who generally see different suppliers, 68% say they were frustrated by the inability to receive coherent care from a single health professional.
More than two thirds (69%) of North West Pacific residents have heard of the AI used in at least one of the ten different health care applications, such as disease diagnosis, treatment recommendation, mental health support and administrative task management such as invoicing and planning.
- However, almost half (48%) of individuals do not know if AI has been used for themselves or for someone they know.
- More individuals believe that the use of AI in health care consists in making it more effective, and therefore more profitable (36%), rather than improving the results for the health of patients (12%).
- Residents are divided into their comfort with the application of AI in the care for the elderly: 42% are comfortable with the use of AI, while 46% find it concerning.
