The wife of a state legislator who was shot down eight times during an attempted assassination apparent to Minnesota, protected her daughter to be struck, said a parent.
After surviving the hail of bullets that injured her parents, Hope Hoffman then called the local authorities who rushed to the scene and saved the life of her parents.
His father, a senator of the Democratic State John Hoffman and his wife Yvette Hoffman, go back to the hospital while the alleged shooter is in detention.
“The heroic actions of the Hoffman family and their daughter Hope have saved countless lives and we are grateful,” said Minnesota Governor Tim Walz at a press conference.
It is one of the many details emerging from a Saturday shootout that killed the former president of the Minnesota Maison, Melissa Hortman, and her husband Marc Hortman and left the Hoffmans in the hospital.
The shooter targeted the two democratic politicians in what Walz called an “act of targeted political violence”.
During the shooting, Yvette Hoffman embarked on their adult daughter Hope Hoffman to protect her from bullets.
“Early this morning, an absolute (explanative) song disguised as a cop caused the house of my aunt and my uncle and pulled him 6 times and my aunt 5 times in a political act of terrorism,” said Mat Ollig, a nephew of the Hoffman said on Facebook. “My aunt threw herself on her daughter, using her body as a shield to save her life.”
In a statement sent by SMS by Yvette Hoffman to American senator Amy Klobuchar, who represents Minnesota, she said that she had been shot eight times and that her husband had been shot dead nine times.
“John hardens many surgeries right now and is closer to all hours of the wood exit,” wrote Yvette Hoffman in an SMS. “He took 9 shots. I took 8 and we are both incredibly lucky to be alive.”
After the officials arrived at the Hoffman residence, one of the police officers on the scene decided to make sure that the Hortmans, who lived nearby, were OK.
When the officials arrived on the scene, they saw the suspect and hired fire before the suspect fled the premises.
The suspect in the case, Vance Luther Boelter, was arrested on Sunday evening after a day’s man hunt. He was accused of two second degree murder leaders and two chiefs of attempted murder in the second degree.
Mr. Boelter was described as a republican who voted for Donald Trump by his roommate who spoke to the American media. But the police did not reveal a reason.
The authorities have found a list of political objectives among Mr. Boelter’s affairs.
