A man was placed in police custody two days after an American politician and her husband were killed in Minnesota, law enforcement officials said.
The authorities had urged the public not to approach Vance Boelter, 57, which they warned could be armed and who would have been a police officer.
A huge manhunt was launched on Saturday after Melissa Hortman and Mark Hortman were killed at their home in Minneapolis in what the Governor of Minnesota Tim Walz called an “assassination with political motivation”.
The police said that the same shooter who had killed the Hortmans had earned and injured the Democratic Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, at their home from there.
Boelter was arrested Sunday evening in a rural area in the County Sibley, southwest of Minneapolis.
He faces two second degree murder leaders and two chiefs of attempted murder in the second degree in the death of the Hortmans and the injuries of Hoffman and his wife.
The police said they responded to the shots at the Hoffmans Champlin home shortly after 2 am on Saturday and found them with several shot injuries.
They then checked the Hortmans’ home, in the neighboring suburbs of Brooklyn Park, and saw what seemed to be a police car and a man dressed as an officer leaving the front door.
“The individual immediately shot the police, who exchanged gunshots, and the suspect retired to the house” and escaped on foot, said Brooklyn Park police chief Mark Bruley.
The authorities believe that Boelter wore a mask when he pretended to be a police officer and also used a vehicle resembling a squad car.
Several AK style firearms and a list of around 70 names, which included politicians and abortion rights militants were found inside the vehicle.
“ We are both incredibly lucky to be alive ‘
Senator Hoffman has been shot in nine times and has undergone several surgeries, according to a shared text message on Instagram by his colleague Senator Amy Klobuchar.
Yvette Hoffman’s text added: “I took 8 and we are both incredibly lucky to be alive.”
She said her husband “is closer to all hours to get out of the woods”.

The files show that Boelter – A father of five – is a former policy named politician who has sat on the same council for the development of the state labor as Mr. Hoffman.
However, it is not clear to what extent they knew each other, if at all.
Mr. Hoffman, 60, was elected for the first time in 2012 and heads a consulting company called Hoffman Strategic Advisors.
Melissa Hortman, a mother of two 55 -year -olds, was elected for the first time in 2004 and was the best Democratic chief in the Chamber of the State legislature.
She was also a speaker of the Minnesota House of Representatives.
Ms. Hortman used her position to defend protections around abortion rights, including laws to cement the status of Minnesota as a safe refuge for people in the restrictive states, who travel there for an abortion.
His work also sought to introduce protections for services that provide abortions.
