Apple starts again, and now he has come to make things happen and they have introduced a new tool that could slightly change our way of traveling, but don’t worry, you will like it! During its annual WWDC event, They announced the launch of the digital IDThis means that you will no longer have to run in the house in search of your passport or your real identifier, because thanks to the new iOS 26 operating system (yes, we are already at 26 years old), you can wear it comfortably without the need for the physical document.

The promise is clear: travel without transporting physical documents and go through border checks faster and safe. We will tell you about it!

What will Apple’s digital id look like?

Well, it will be almost as easy as you identify with a face ID or an ID touch on the old versions of the iPhone, and you will have access to your real documentation in a few seconds without having to transport it with you.

Of course, Apple has worked with government agencies to ensure that this solution meets international security standards and has guaranteed that all the information will be encrypted and only share with the user’s consent.

Beyond airports

Although the initial objective is to simplify and mitigate travel, Apple has also designed its digital identifier for other daily scenarios. It can be used to rent cars, register in hotels or check your age in physical stores. And once you have your document on your mobile phone, you will not even need to transport it physically and you can use it in most situations where you are asked to show ID (yes, it is just as valid and legal, it is not something that Apple has done).

What about confidentiality?

Of course, privacy is one of the main concerns for citizens, but there is nothing to fear. Apple stressed that this technology is based on the protection of user confidentiality and that no sensitive data will be shared with anyone.

It is not only a question of convenience, but also of control: you decide when and with whom you share your data. In addition, all the information is encrypted from start to finish, and it will work roughly like your Apple wallet, you alone can activate it.

Where will he be available first?

Of course, this feature will first be implemented only in the United States, and Apple will collaborate with the immigration authorities and the airports selected to start testing it. Once the main trials are completed, it will develop nationally and who knows, it could soon be available in airports in the world.

Although there is not yet any exact date for global expansion, Apple plans to deploy this technology to other countries in the years to come. Adoption will depend on agreements with governments and airports, but the process is underway.

What do you need to use it?

To use Apple Digital ID, you will need an iPhone compatible with iOS 26. Once you have updated the system, you can scan your official document and check your identity via the device’s biometric system.

And that’s it, you can show your identifier with your iPhone.

The digital future begins here

Digital identification is there to change everything, don’t you think? Keep in mind, even if it becomes available, it does not mean that it is compulsory, if you feel more safe by carrying your physical documentation, go ahead!

But this change is designed to facilitate travel (especially for those of us who are a little forgetful …). For the moment, a new path has opened, we will have to wait and see if the technological industry and the governments follow, or if everything ends up being an attempt!
