A man from Surrey faces 15 criminal charges related to a collision with a Uber on Highway 1 in Burnaby last year who killed two women.
The collision occurred on February 18, 2024After the Uber driver stopped and stopped on the side of the highway near the release of Sprott Street to take care of one of the passengers.
The vehicle was then struck at high speed by a mini-duties, killing Jenna Hepperle, 20, and Mursal Arifi, 23, both of Maple Ridge. One victim was killed on the scene while the other died later in the hospital.
Two other passengers, two women from Maple Ridge in their twenties, were seriously injured.
“The friends I lost that day are irreplaceable, and the number of love shared between us was indescribable,” the survivor Danaylia Douglas told Global News in a press release.
“It minimizes that they were the best people I have ever met, when they were really much more than that.”

According to a gofundme for one of the victim’s families, the women had returned home from a night of celebration when the tragedy struck.
On Friday, BC Highway Patrol said that Chi Sun Park, 35, was accused of two dangerous driving leaders causing death and three dangerous driving leaders causing bodily injury.
At the time of the accident, the police said that they did not think that disability was a factor, however, on Friday, police announced a variety of driving accusations with a drug.
According to accusations, Park had methamphetamine in his system at the time of the collision.
The park must be due to the Vancouver provincial courtyard on July 24.
