Joy, laugh, smiles and no shortage from Miaules.
These sounds echoed the common area of Providence living in the views of Comox last Thursday when the installation was flooded with kittens, and they will be back every week.
The visit is the result of a new partnership between the Cats Society, a rescue organization of the island of Vancouver, and the views, an establishment which already innovates as one of the first homes of long-term care of the “dementia village” in British Columbia.
The idea of the initiative became after the son of one of the residents of the views, a member of the board of directors of the CATS Society, brought his pet and saw the opportunity to share the experience.
The result was the new program that brought a batch of feline babies to climb, galaver, purr and snuggle up with the residents of the installation – and the results were magical.
“We see so many incredible connections, it’s as if sparks fly everywhere, to be honest,” said Kelly Romeril, director of view operations.

“We see people remember the pets they had throughout their lives, we see people wanting to bring them home and adopt them, we see members of the staff, family members and residents just in pure joy, laughter, laughter, you just don’t believe it.”

Opinions are the first healthcare center in Canada funded by the public based on the village of Dementia, a European concept which avoids a hospital format and aims to create an environment as much as possible for residents.
Providence calls the “home for us” model and aims to extend it to all of its long -term long -term care establishments.
“Part of the move … In a care house is sometimes a series of losses, so each time we can bring back part of this joy, we can bring these moments of connection and spontaneity and repel part of this loss and this boredom, it is a good thing to do and welcomes us,” said Romeril.
As part of this mission, The Views has integrated the possibility of contacting animals in various ways, welcoming chicks, baby ducks and goats of local leisure farms, as well as St. John Ambulance Canada and various pets.
Making regular CATS CATTS visitors is considered a win-win, offering regular fur contact to residents and giving young felines an opportunity for human socialization.

“Communication comes in many ways, it is not always only words, and there is something to connect with another being, whether it is a human or an animal – when the connection occurs, it is magical and the words are really not necessary,” said Romeril.
“And that’s what we see a lot with pet visits, words are not necessary, love and joy that are there and that’s what matters.”
