Ransomware attack on the ticketing platform upsets the South Korean entertainment industry

Ransomware attack on one of the largest ticketing platforms and online books in South Korea disrupted the country’s entertainment industry – forcing the cancellations and reports of events while the organizers rush to manage the current service failure, according to local media.

The attack by Yes24, which struck Early Monday, left the website and the offline company services for four consecutive days, paralyzing online reservations for concerts, access to electronic books and community forums. The company said it was aimed at restoring full operations by June 15.

Ticketing platforms are attractive targets for cybercriminals because they store large volumes of personal data, treat high volumes of payments and face strong pressure to quickly pay ransom to avoid disturbances of events and reputation damage.
