Jacksonville, Florida – Months after News action, Jax reported on the issue for the first time, Deerwood Village companies have said that they are still faced with the major disturbances caused by current construction on a new public.
The project, which started last October at the corner of Baymeadows and Southside Boulevard, has wreaked havoc on local stores. Publix customer service said the project should be completed by December. Until then, some companies have used the implementation of signs to remind customers that they are always open and how to find them.
It was a long and frustrating wait for store owners and customers of Deerwood Village.
“I spoke with business owners and everyone has trouble,” said Patrick O’Brien, a Great Clips worker on the square.

Before the start of construction, customers said parking was not a problem.
“Well, before, we had three or four parking rows here. There was a lot of space for everyone,” said Colin Buchner customer.
Everything changed the construction once started.
“There is a huge parking lot there. You thought they could at least do half of it and make us some parking,” said O’Brien.
Drone sequences captured in February showed the first stages of construction. New images now show that the foundation takes shape.
“We have heard that Publix will be done in December,” said Buchner.

But for companies like scramblers, the impact was serious.
The owner told Action News Jax in February that pedestrian traffic had dropped dramatically.
This week, the owner said in an SMS that the company was considerably decreasing since it had lost its parking lot.
Since the loss of their parking lot, the restaurant has experienced a major drop in customers. Previously, they served more than 50 people a day, but now only a handful of customers arrive daily, and most of the tables are empty.
“Many of our customers are elderly or elderly people. They find it difficult to locate our place because of the labyrinth, which we call the parking lot there. Then, if it rains, they will also have trouble arriving here,” said O’Brien.
“We had panels there, and they always find it difficult to get to us. Whenever they enter, they complain a little more and a little more. We try to continue our business and offer what we can, like coupons and discounts. For the most part, it was a nightmare. ”
The owners of stores said that even having access to part of their old car park would make a big difference to help their companies survive until the end of the construction.

We also contacted Raul Arias, member of the Municipal Council of the District 11, to see if he could give an overview of the situation in his district.
His office made this declaration:
“After examining the question. The municipal councilor Arias does not represent Publix or the owner possible. As such, we have no power to dictate the calendar of events relating to their construction, and we do not have access to these documents.
“We assume that the owner has provided a kind of rescue agreement in terms of rental with the other tenants of the shopping center. Although, as it is a private agreement, this is our competence. ”
