Raleigh, NC (WTVD) – A new Japanese-themed store, Ebisu, has opened in downtown Raleigh, offering authentic Japanese products and unique finds.
Customers were aligned on Hillsborough street for the big opening on Saturday morning, eager to explore the selection of the store of household products, snacks, toys and skin care.
“I arrived here at 8 (am) thinking, I would better arrive here a few hours earlier because it will probably be a very long line,” said Jennifer Bishop de Raleigh, who was among the first customers.
Bishop was not alone. Dozens of people gathered to have a chance to be among the first inside the store, which officially opened its doors at 10 a.m.
“I am so nervous at the moment, but I am also excited,” said Sha Lin, the director of Ebisu about the first day of the store’s operation.
Ebisu, the first of its kind in the region, has around 80% of Japanese goods and 20% of items from other parts of Asia. The store shelves are filled with colorful stationery, unique candies and original household items.
“I know it looks silly, but the Hello Kitty toilet paper looked rather treated!” Said Bishop laughing.
The participation rate surprised Lin, which was delighted to see the enthusiasm of the community.
The launch of Saturday was considered a gentle opening, but Lin hopes that the buzz will continue, making Ebisu a basic food in downtown Raleigh. The store is now open at 3012 Hillsborough Street.
