The owners of small businesses thank the legislature of Texas for having sent a bill on cybersecurity to the office of Governor Abbott

Austin (June 2, 2025) – owners of small businesses in Texas are grateful that the Senate 2610 bill adopted the legislature and awaits the signature of Governor Greg Abbott. The measure creates a legal number that protects small businesses against punitive damages if they become victims of a data violation, provided they have adopted a cybersecurity framework recognized by the industry. The bill encourages companies on the main street to invest in cybersecurity while reducing their legal exhibition.

The director of the state of Nfib, Jeff Bardett, said:

“Small businesses are implacably targeted by bad online players, often leading to theft of sensitive information, reputation damage and, in some cases, prosecution for abbreviation. This bill encourages small businesses to mitigate legal risks by investing in cybersecurity measures to safeguard data sensitive to a cyber fertilizer. César Blanco and the representative Giovanni Capriglione for their efforts on behalf of small businesses. »»

Background:

In April, Eduardo ContrerasMember of the NFIB Texas Leadership Council and the working group on the advice of small businesses of Governor Abbott, testified Before the Senate Business and Trade Committee to support the Senatorial Bill 2610.

“I strongly support the Senate 2610 bill to support and protect our companies and our citizens against devastating cyber attacks. This bill provides incentives and advice to small and medium -sized businesses to implement reasonable cybersecurity controls, protect sensitive personal data and reduce economic damage. ”
