Listen to Summary of the story

The goals of the six -year investment had to bring the UIC closer to become a Health promotion university And improve the mental health care of students as a result of the COVVI-19 pandemic.

“Being a health promotion university is to integrate health and well-being in everything we do,” said Raphael Florestal-Kevelier, a vice-chancellor associated for the health and well-being of students. He added that the designation means that mental health is taken into account both in university policy and the practice of students, teachers and staff. “We want to create an environment where everyone can be good and really edifying.”

Now the IUC is starting to see the results of this investment, with more staff at the University Council Center, training in mental health care for teachers and a program at the Jane Addams College of Social Work which integrates graduate students in colleges to serve as professional mental health trainees. Find out more about the way the first two years of these projects have expanded mental health support to students.

IUIC also ordered A study by the American College Health Association This informed the university’s road card to create mental health resources in the future. The study recommended the University to rename the leisure center and, in January, the leisure service has become Recreation and well-being.

The funds were also dedicated to creating an additional reception center on the campus which would facilitate the needs of emergency mental health, said Florestal-Kevelier. The plans are to open this center in time for the start of the fall semester.
