The Center for Data Innovation submitted these comments to the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) in response to their request for comments on the development of a strategic research and development plan (R&D) of research and development (R&D).
The AI R&D National Strategic Plan was launched for the first time under President Obama, updated under President Trump, and extended to President Biden, and has always reflected the priorities of the administration. A second term Trump should now refocus it on the delivery of the administration’s commitment to operate AI for the American people.
This submission describes three key recommendations to support this objective:
1. Realize the AI the guiding objective of federal R&D
2. Prioritize research which connects technical design to the performance results of AI systems
3. Invest in research to generate more important data for AI.
