THE Ford government advance changes to the way Child protection The organizations report that financial decisions in the newly filed legislation – before a series of monetary surveys launched last fall, ended.
Thursday, the Minister of Education Paul Calandra file an omnibus invoice focused on the province’s school boards, with changes included for Children’s help companies and also universities.
As part of the bill, if it is adopted, the government will demand that children’s aid companies examine and update their statutes before making them public. The government will also consult the way of making the time and content of the meetings of the public board of directors for organizations funded by taxpayers.
The regulations will follow the adoption of the bill which will also increase the monitoring of certain financial decisions taken by children’s assistance companies.
These adjustments for children’s aid companies, according to the government, will bring transparency to a sector that has been under the spotlight for some time.
“The changes we propose would strengthen the surveillance and responsibility of children’s aid companies,” said Michael Parsa, Minister of Children, Community and Social Services, in a statement.

“This is part of our continuous efforts to improve the lives of children and young people who are involved in the child protection system. This is another important step towards the guarantee of all children and young people in Ontario, they are aware of their rights and receive the care, support and protection they deserve. ”
The CEO of the Ontario Children’s Aid Companies Association Solomon Owoo said in a statement that he was favorable to the intentions announced – but had to study details.
“Although we are still reviewing the proposed legislation, we support the government’s desire to improve the lives of children, young people and families who receive children’s protection agency services,” he said in a statement.
The changes in financial surveillance, however, are before the results of a series of monetary audits of children’s assistance companies announced by the government last year.
In autumn, The government has announced that it would be probing the finances of children’s assistance organizations in the province – citing a lower number of children with regard to and increasing costs and deficits.
The surveys carried out by KPMG are currently underway and will be published once finished – temporarily before spring passes in the summer.
Parsa said that the announcement of new financial surveillance and the regulation of children’s help before the results of financial studies were known to him or that the public did not put the cart in front of the horse.

The new legislation, including changes in child protection, should not adopt the law before fall.
