Taylor Lanning, doctor of assistant doctor (PA-C), has always sucked in building his career around rural communities.

Growing up, his family had access to tribal health care. She remembers the moments when her family could not have taken care of their health without this resource.

“I have always wanted to give back for all the tribal health care that has done for me,” said Lanning.

His career in medicine began as a technical nurse in the emergency room at Saint François Hospital in Tulsa. She was inspired to pursue a career as an assistant doctor after working alongside the APs in the department and see how their collaboration with supervisors benefited from patient care.

“I saw the impact of APs in the first hand on improving access to health care for patients. I knew I wanted to be part of it, ”she said.

Lanning is a graduate of the Oklahoma State Center for Health Sciences medical center for medical center in 2024. The accent put by the rural health program is what initially attracted it to the OSU-CHS.

The AP program focuses on increasing access to health care in rural and poorly served Oklahoma. Lanning has seen this reflected in the study program.

“OSU-CHS did an excellent job by preparing us to work in rural communities and badly served. There were several rotations in the state in rural areas that helped me know more about the functioning of rural medicine, “she said.

“OSU-CHS has an excellent atmosphere to promote learning and development. Not only as a professional, but also as a person.”

Now Lanning is a primary care provider for Cherokee Nation Health Services at Three Rivers Health Center in Muskogee, Oklahoma, realizing her dream of working in tribal health care.

She said that she liked to work in primary care, because it gives her the opportunity to treat the overall health of her patients and live something new every day. The most gratifying part of her career is the relationships he establishes with her patients.

“I love to see my patients and be part of their lives. It is enriching to see them for follow-up meetings and help them improve their health, “said Lanning.

Regarding its success, it attributes the environment of support for the OSU-CHS.

“I can’t say enough good things about the faculty,” she said. “Everyone wants to ensure that their students succeed in class and in the real world. OSU-CHS has a good atmosphere to promote learning and development. Not only as a professional, but also as a person,” she said.

Lanning advises aspirants not to take advantage of all the experience.

“Make sure you find moments of joy. Enjoy the trip and keep in mind how much it is a privilege to work in health care and help people throughout their lives, “she said. “Find the field that you are passionate about and continue it with excellence. If you do, you will never work a day in your life. ”
