Do not look further than Uptown Cheapskate for racks filled with trendy styles and quality used mode.

Known for its organized selection of used fashion, the popular resale store was a must for students from Penn State and is now located a few steps from the campus.

Uptown Cheapskate officially moved from 176 Rolling Ridge Drive to a more practical place in downtown 522 E. College Ave, located next to the climb.

This decision sparked a wave of students and families in the aisles of stores with an excitement flowing in space. As many students on campus have no constant transport, employees hope that this change will lead to more customers.

Karin Graham said she was enthusiastic about the future of Uptown Cheapskate.

“It’s really exciting,” said Graham, store manager. “As a city center, it’s honestly ideal for any retail store.”

Uptown Cheapskate had its first initial opening in 2020 next to their Sister Kid store in Kid, which has been active since 1997.

From the start, Graham noted that the plan was to move to the city center of the demography of Penn State students.

“Before we know what 2020 brought, we did not have an excellent kickstart to advertising,” Graham said. “We knew that if we could come to the city center, we would have much more access to students.”

Isabela Marquez expressed her gratitude for the Uptown Cheapskate system.

“I like the way all the clothes are quite practical, very low (and) of good quality, as if you are looking at the t-shirts, there are no stains, no tears or anything,” said Marquez, a buyer. “The one in which I went, I only went there only one or twice, but I found a lot of good things that I still wear today.”

The selective purchasing system of Uptown Cheapskate guarantees that only fashion with a slightly used tendency, used, goes to racks. With a constant flow of entrant and outgoing items, unique individual styles are essential to the store.

Kamryn Whited detailed his role as a buyer for Uptown.

“I am in a way the second eye to make sure they did not miss like a stain or anything,” said Whited, an employee. “I put it in our purchasing system, I give an offer to the customer, then I pay them.”

One of the advantages of the store is its cash or store credit offer – store credit is always 25% more than cash supply, while the buyer can keep 10% for themselves. This advantage stimulates sales which then allows the community to shop and sell at the same time.

Uptown Cheapskate had its great reopening on May 1, 2025 and began their celebration with a handful of surprises to the first buyers from May 22 to May 25. Their prices included shopping sprees, free goods and daily gifts – all to accommodate their supporters with open arms.

Brooke Person underlined “accessibility” for students who came with Uptown Cheapskate and its relocation.

“It’s an excellent location,” said the person, a fifth year studying Spanish and work and human resources. “It is more accessible to students, so they will have much more income.”

The person declared their relief for adding to the Downtown State College.

“It’s better than others,” said the person. “They have better clothes than some other stores in the city for the same price.”
