Wrentham, Mass. (WHDH) – A 16 -year -old from Wrentham won a prize of $ 75,000 Regeneron Young Scientist for having created a desktop plastic recycling system.
Benjamin Davis says that its user -friendly system can recycle 3D printers and other plastics by transforming it into filaments for 3D printing. Up to 67% of the filament used in typical 3D printing projects can be found as waste.
Using methods of electricity, mechanical and chemical engineering, the poutrusion (push-through) and extrusion (Pull-Through) processes to make the process about 45% more efficient. Its device is faster than other domestic recycles and creates a better quality product.
Its easy operation means that non -technical users can recycle and print in 3D more efficiently and that its design is an effective recycling machine which costs 90% less than commercial options.
Davis says he plans to study engineering at college and wishes to use his money prize to continue his research.
