(CNN) – The dates of the upcoming tour of Billy Joel were canceled while the legendary performer requires treatment for normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), a condition that affects the brain, according to a statement published on Friday.
THE statementPublished on his Instagram page on Friday, said that Joel’s state “was exacerbated by recent concert performances, leading to problems of hearing, vision and balance.”
“As part of his doctor’s instructions, Billy undergoes specific physical therapy and was advised to refrain from occurring during this recovery period,” the statement said. “Billy is grateful for the excellent care he receives and is fully determined to prioritize his health.”
The press release added that Joel “is looking forward to the day he can go on stage”.

The singer was quoted in the declaration, saying that he was “sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience”.
Hydrocephaly of normal pressure is a “very rare condition” which “occurs when a person has too much liquid in the brain”, according to Yale Medicine. Less than 3% of adults over 65 are diagnosed with ONP and this also affects men and women.

Joel’s declaration informed the ticket holders that they will automatically be reimbursed for the cost of their tickets.
